Warriors for Warriors began at Walled Lake Western in 2011. Warriors for Warriors (W4W) was the original inspiration of Head Football Coach, Mike Zdebski. His idea for a pink football game to raise funds for breast cancer awareness inspired a few booster parents, and the idea quickly took off!
The original concept was that the Walled Lake Western Football Program would hold this event in order to further the players’ involvement in their community and to support those who have been affected by breast cancer. The enthusiasm of the students and players led to additional charities being added. In 2012, W4W passionately moved to support three charities rather than one, and extended the types of cancer warriors we support. We now strive to make cancer of ALL kinds a diagnosis of the past.
Now in our 9th year, Warriors for Warriors (W4W) has become a point of pride for Walled Lake Western as well as the Walled Lake Consolidated School District. Thanks to the overwhelming support of the school district, as well as many businesses & organizations in the community, W4W’s fundraising has reached $550,000.
Fundraising events begin with the Football Pink Out in the fall and student groups continue to work on fundraising during the remainder of the school year. Students, parents, teachers and members of the community are involved in this effort to support cancer warriors and to insure that “No One Fights Alone!”
The charities that we are currently raising funds for are:
